Almost every eye clinic owner asks the same question: should we put the ad budget on Google or on Meta? The honest answer is that they do different jobs, and the best-performing clinics usually run both. Here is how to decide the split for your clinic.
Which Is Better For Eye Clinics, Google Ads Or Meta Ads?
Neither is universally better, they capture different demand. Google Ads captures patients already searching for LASIK, cataract, or an eye specialist, so it delivers high-intent, ready-to-book leads. Meta Ads create demand among people who are not searching yet but are tired of glasses or worried about their vision. Most eye clinics get the best cost per qualified consultation by running both together.

Google Ads: Capturing Existing Intent
Google Ads shows your clinic when a patient actively searches “LASIK cost in [city]” or “best cataract surgeon near me”. That patient already wants the procedure, so these leads convert faster and warmer. The trade-off is that high-intent keywords are competitive and cost more per click, and you can only capture demand that already exists.
Best For
- High-intent procedures people research and search for, like LASIK and cataract.
- Clinics that need booked consultations quickly, from week one.
- Cities where enough people are already searching for your procedures.
Meta Ads: Creating New Demand
On Facebook and Instagram, patients are not searching, they are scrolling. Meta Ads interrupt that feed with a message that sparks interest: freedom from glasses, clearer vision, a limited camp offer. This reaches the large group of people who would consider LASIK or a cataract check but have not looked yet. The trade-off is that these leads are earlier in their journey and need stronger qualification and follow-up.
Best For
- Awareness and demand generation for elective procedures, especially LASIK.
- Visual, benefit-led messaging and camp or offer promotion.
- Filling the top of the funnel and remarketing to past visitors.
How To Split The Budget
There is no single right ratio, but a practical starting point for most eye clinics is to weight toward Google Ads for immediate bookings while using Meta Ads to build a pipeline of future patients. If you need consultations this month, lean Google. If your searches are limited or you are pushing an elective procedure like LASIK hard, lean more into Meta. Then let the actual cost per qualified consultation on each channel move the budget over time.

Match The Channel To The Procedure
- LASIK: High search intent, so Google Ads leads, Meta supports awareness.
- Cataract: Strong search demand, Google Ads usually primary.
- Retina / glaucoma: Often urgent and searched, Google Ads primary.
- ICL / premium lenses: Lower search volume, Meta Ads help create awareness.
Measure The Only Number That Matters
Do not compare channels on cost per click or cost per lead alone. A cheaper lead that never books is worthless. Track cost per qualified consultation and, ideally, cost per surgery for each channel. That is the number that tells you where the next rupee should go, and it often surprises clinics who assumed the cheaper channel was winning.

Do Not Skip Remarketing
Most patients do not book on the first visit, especially for an elective procedure they are still weighing. Remarketing shows your clinic again to people who visited your landing page or engaged with an ad but did not convert. It works on both platforms and is usually the cheapest source of consultations you have, because these people already know you. On Google, remarketing keeps you visible as they keep researching; on Meta, it gently reminds the glasses-tired scroller who was almost ready. For a considered decision like LASIK or cataract, staying in front of a warm audience often converts better than chasing new cold traffic, and it quietly lowers your blended cost per qualified consultation. Set it up before you scale spend, not after.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should A New Eye Clinic Start With Google Or Meta Ads?
If you need bookings fast, start with a tight Google Ads campaign on your highest-value procedure, then layer in Meta once tracking and follow-up are solid.
Why Are My Eye Clinic Ads Getting Cheap Leads That Never Book?
Usually the targeting or offer attracts price shoppers and free-check-up seekers. The fix is qualification and follow-up, covered in our lead-quality guide, not just switching channels.
How Much Budget Do I Need To Test Both Channels?
Enough on each to gather real conversion data over a few weeks. A budget spread too thin across both never gives a clear read. We scope realistic figures in the audit.
Can Meta Ads Work For Cataract Patients?
Yes, especially for awareness and reaching family members who help older patients decide, though Google usually captures the active cataract searches. A common winning setup is Google for the ready-to-book cataract searches and Meta to reach the adult children who often research and book on a parent’s behalf.
